UPDATE: South Wales FRS All Wales Extrication / Trauma / Rope Challenge 2026

UPDATE (26/03/26): All challenges are now full.

UPDATE (20/03/26): Extrication and trauma challenges are now full but we have 1 placement for the rope challenge left!

South Wales Fire and Rescue Centre will be hosting an all Wales and regional extrication, trauma and rope challenge on Saturday 16th May 2026.

Venue: Leadership and Personal Development Academy, Church Road, Cardiff, CF3 6YA

Extrication, trauma and rope teams from around the UK are invited to compete and be assessed in devised challenge scenarios.

Book soon! The extrication challenge is limited to 10 teams; the trauma challenge is also limited to 10 teams; the rope challenge is limited to 4 teams.

A change to the 2025 National Rescue Challenge

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the United Kingdom Rescue Organisation (UKRO) National Rescue Challenge will not be held at the Fire Service College as previously communicated.

We are pleased to confirm that in place of the challenge this year, the UKRO will be hosting a number of regional Continuous Professional Development (CPD) events, across a suite of Rescue Disciplines (Extrication, Trauma, Water and Rope).

These events will include the charity sharing the new principles regarding the way extrication and trauma challenges will be delivered differently in the future and the application of the EXIT project, which continues to deliver new findings to improve patient outcomes in the event of Road Traffic Collisions. The events will also be a great chance to network with more local partners.

Keep a look out on our channels for announcements of these regional CPD events within the next few months – we hope to see you there!

The UKRO would like to thank all Volunteers and participants for their continued support in the drive to enhance professional rescue. This year gives us the opportunity for you to help shape our next steps.

Unfortunately, due to logistical issues with the venue at the Historic Dockyard we will not be running the HGV Challenge this year. Instead, the Education team will be running a guided practical workshop entitled “Lifting plans (suspension management)”. We apologise for any disappointment. The HGV Challenge will return next year.

UKRO publishes updated Code Of Conduct for its volunteers.

The UKRO Board has refreshed the Code of Conduct for the charity’s volunteers. This is now available here. All volunteers should read and be familiar with the updated Code.
