Trauma Challenge

What is the Trauma Challenge?

FAQ

What is the goal of the trauma challenge?

The goal of the trauma challenge is for the team of 2 competitors from each brigade or service, to safely approach, assess, treat, package, and provide a formal handover to the assessors. The teams will be faced with a variety of casualties with traumatic injuries and/or medical conditions. These are representative of the types of casualties they would be expected to provide care for as part of their daily role as a firefighter.

What are the scoring criteria of this challenge?

The teams are scored against a standardised matrix that encompasses the following areas: safe approach, primary survey, secondary survey, patient packaging, formal handover. This must all be carried out in 9 minutes, leaving 1 minute for handover.

Teams carry and use the same equipment they use in their role as firefighters. This includes but is not limited too: tourniquets, haemostatic agents, blast bandages, airway devices, oxygen, chest seals, pelvic binders, traction splints, penthrox pain relief.
