What is the goal of the water rescue challenge?
The water rescue challenge consists of two one-day events that tests the top water rescue technicians within a realistic assessment scenario.
Day 1 (river search scenario) – teams search through moving water from land whilst completing challenges
Day 2 (large flood event) – teams complete technical rescues and challenges whilst using a powerboat as a mobile platform!

What are the scoring criteria of this challenge?
Water rescue teams are assessed on their individual role as well as their team performance. These roles are the officer-in-charge, helm, and rescuer/medic.
Some of the assessment criteria covered is:
- Risk information gathering
- Command and control
- Decision making process
- Communication skills
- Skill of boat handling
- Boat safety
- Communication
- Medical survey
- Injury assessment
- Application of treatment
